Cosa ho imparato oggi - What I have learnt today (part 2)

- Qui in danimarca anche i delinquenti sono più civili. Per esempio si impegnano a riavvitarti tutte le viti dopo che le hanno svitate per rubarti le targhe della macchina (tutte e due, sia quella anteriore sia quella posteriore).

Here in Denmark even criminals are way more civilized. For example they screw back ALL THE SCREWS after they have removed them to steal the numberplates of your car (both of them, the front and the back one).

- Dopo la cerimonia della consegna dei diplomi di laurea, il DTU (che sarebbe la mia università qui a Copenhagen) offre un lauto buffet a tutti i parenti ed amici dei laureati. Anche quelli che hanno conosciuto il laureato 5 minuti prima della cerimonia. Ho mangiato e bevuto. Tanto.

After the graduation ceremony, DTU (the university where I'm studying here in Copenhagen) offers a huge buffet to all the relatives and friends of the graduated. Also to the guys (ME) who met for the first time a graduating student just 5 MINUTES BEFORE THE CEREMONY. I 've been eating and drinking. A lot.

- Se sei a Copenhagen in un locale pienissimo di gente e ti trovi di fronte alle cucine a sbirciarci dentro, evita di fare commenti ad alta voce con i tuoi amici italiani tipo "Chissà che schifezze combinano in quelle cucine!". Il barista infatti potrebbe essere anch'esso italiano, di Roma per l'esattezza (nella foto, con la maglietta verde) e capire perfettamente quello che dici. E potrebbe risponderti a tono.

If you are in Copenhagen in a very crowded pub and you are in front of the entrance of the kitchen of the pub, you should avoid loud comments in italian like "Who knows how many disgusting things happen in that kitchen!". The barman, in fact, might be italian too, from Roma (in the picture, the guy wearing green t-shirt) and he might understand whatever you say. And answer to you.

- Questo è il cielo DI SERA a Copenhagen alle ore 20:32 di qualche giorno fa. E siamo solo ad inizio aprile. Luce. Luce. Luce. Vita.

Cosa ho imparato oggi - What I have learnt today

- Il Kazakhstan è grosso quasi 10 volte l'Italia, ma ha solo un quarto degli abitanti Italiani. Densità di popolazione: 6 abitanti per chilometro quadrato! La seconda città più grossa del Kazakstan (2 milioni di abitanti) è stata costruita durante gli scorsi 10 anni.

- Su un popolare motore di ricerca russo( http://pogoda.yandex.ru/6180/ ), alla sezione previsioni del tempo, c'è una slot machine che permette di tirare a sorte sul tempo dei prossimi giorni.

- La capitale delle isole Far Oer conta 20mila abitanti, quindi giusto 5mila in più della piccola Squinzano!

- In Corea del Sud il servizio militare obbligatorio dura 2 anni. E sono due anni da incubo.

- In Giappone trovarsi nel mezzo di un terremoto del 7 grado della scala Richter è normalissimo. Molti restano addirittura in casa e continuano a fare ciò che stavano facendo.

- Qui in Danimarca, se il postino deve recapitarti un pacco ma non ti trova a casa, ti lascia un biglietto nella cassetta della posta con il quale andare a ritirare il pacco personalmente. Non in ufficio postale, però, bensì in un piccolo supermarket gestito da un egiziano.

- All'estero nessuno capisce perchè continuiamo a votare Berlusconi. Neanch'io, francamente.

Questo è quello che ho imparato oggi dalle persone che ho incontrato e dalle situazioni che ho vissuto. Viva la vita. Sempre e comunque.

P.S: Oggi ero ad un meeting in università e in sala conferenze, per ogni posto, c'erano i documenti per seguire il meeting e una bottiglia d'acqua. La marca? DTU. Danish Technical University. Per la serie: la classe può anche non essere acqua, ma l'acqua può essere di classe, eccome! ;-)

- On a very popular russian search engine website ( http://pogoda.yandex.ru/6180/ ) is possible, in the weather forecast section, to decide the next day's weather just playing a slot machine.

- Far Oer Islands capital city counts 20000 people, so just 5000 people more than my little town, Squinzano.

- In South Korea the mandatory military service lasts 2 years. And it's 2 years of hell.

- In Japan it's quite common to be in the middle of a 7 Richter degrees earthquake. A lot of people just don't react and stay at home keep living normally.

- Here in Denmark, when a postman has to deliver a package but doesn't find anyone at home, he leaves in the mailbox a ticket wich you will use to pick up the package personally. Not at the post office, but rather in a little supermarket with an Egyptian owner.

- Abroad nobody understands why we keep voting Berlusconi. Me neither, to be honest.

This is what I have learnt today from people I met and from the experiences I had. Life is beautiful. Anyway.

P.S: Today I was at a meeting at university. In the meeting room, on every table, there were some documents to follow the conference and a bottle of water. The brand? DTU, Danish Technical University. I was really impressed.

In questo pomeriggio lievemente primaverile (qui a Copenhagen siamo 2 gradi sopra lo zero, ed è una bella cosa, credetemi! la primavera sta arrivando!!!), detto per inciso, non avevo granchè da fare. E allora ho deciso di realizzare una cosa che avevo in programma da parecchio: calcolare quanta strada ho fatto finora nella mia vita. Quanto spazio ho percorso durante questi anni. Quante volte mi sono spostato da un posto ad un altro di questo pianeta un pò sfigato (perchè credo che a nessun pianeta faccia piacere avere sulla propria crosta 6 miliardi di esserini che rompono i maroni tutti insieme) ma indubbiamente degno di nota.

Ed ho iniziato a ricordare, a tornare un pò indietro negli anni, ad annotare tutti i miei viaggi, tutte le tappe e i mezzi di trasporto che ho usato. Ovviamente ho considerato soltanto le lunghe tratte, diciamo dai 500 km in su, utilizzando sia l'aereo, sia il treno, raramente il pullman. Dopo diverse ore di brainstorming e di analisi storiografiche, vi presento i risultati di questa ricerca che, devo dirlo, ha lasciato sorpreso me per primo!

DISTANZA TOTALE PERCORSA = 114 400 km (Quasi tre volte il giro del mondo!)

DISTANZA PERCORSA IN AEREO = 49 670 km (Il 75% dei viaggi in aereo sono stati effettuati negli ultimi 7 anni)

DISTANZA PERCORSA VIA TERRA = 64 400 km (ho tenuto conto solo dei viaggi fatti negli ultimi 7 anni)

NUMERO TOTALE DI VOLI IN AEREO = 59

NUMERO DI VIAGGI VIA TERRA SUPERIORI A 600 km = 64

NUMERO TOTALE DI NAZIONI VISITATE = 15 (18, se consideriamo "nazioni" anche il Principato di Monaco, Città del Vaticano e San Marino!)

COMPAGNIA AEREA PIU' UTILIZZATA = Ryanair

AEROPORTO ITALIANO PIU' UTILIZZATO = Brindisi

AEROPORTO ESTERO PIU' UTILIZZATO = London Stansted

TRATTE VIA TERRA PIU' FREQUENTI = Squinzano - Torino (21 volte in treno, 1140 km) e Torino-Squinzano (18 volte, è strano e sconvolgente ma anche al ritorno sono 1140 km)

Questi dati sono da considerarsi provvisori, ho intenzione di integrarli e di aggiungervi i tanti spostamenti che, son sicuro, mi sono sfuggiti. Tengo a sottolineare di nuovo che praticamente quasi tutti i viaggi conteggiati in questa ricerca si sono svolti negli ultimi 7 anni: la distanza totale percorsa, quindi, è destinata a crescere una volta che avrò contato tutti gli spostamenti che ho fatto negli anni precedenti.

This afternoon, which looks like slightly spring (here in Copenhagen it's 2°C above zero, and it's greater than a few days ago, believe me!), to be honest, I didn't have anything interesting to do. So I've decided to do something I have been planning for a long long time: calculate the total distance I have covered in my life until now. How many kilometers I did during these years. How many times I've been moving from a place to another one on this quite unlucky planet ('cause I think none of the planets in the universe would be happy to be annoyed by 6 billions little humans), but interesting, anyway.

So I started remembering, going back to last years, looking for every trip I made, all the means of trasportation I've used. I have taken into consideration only trips long enough, let's say starting from 500 km, using planes, trains, buses (rarely). After several hours of brainstorming and historical research, this is what I found out. I'm impressed of these results, what about you?

TOTAL DISTANCE COVERED = 114 400 km (almost three times the earth circonference!)

DISTANCE COVERED BY PLANE = 49 670 km (75% of these trips have been made in the last 7 years)

DISTANCE COVERED BY LAND = 64 400 km (only trips made during last 7 years have been taken into consideration)

TOTAL NUMBER OF FLIGHTS = 59

NUMBER OF TRIPS BY LAND LONGER THAN 600 KM = 64

TOTAL NUMBER OF COUNTRIES VISITED = 15 (18 if we can consider "countries" the Principality of Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican City!)

MOST USED AIRLINE = Ryanair

MOST USED ITALIAN AIRPORT = Brindisi

MOST USED FOREIGN AIRPORT = London Stansted

MOST FREQUENT LAND ROUTE = Squinzano - Torino (21 times by train, 1140 km) and Torino - Squinzano (18 times by train, 1140 km again!! :-D )

These results must be considered provisional, I want to make them complete adding also the trips I have made when I was younger. I repeat: almost all these data are referred just to trips I have made in the last 7 years!

The Seagull - Il Gabbiano

It happened yesterday night. A simple melody, just a few notes, knocked in my head, and I started singing it without knowing where that was coming from. This morning, when I woke up, I sat in front of my piano and I've composed this song, in a couple of minutes. You can like it, you can dislike it.... I called it "The seagull" because it goes on its own, just following the flow of music, exactly like the seagull follows the flow of wind...

E' successo ieri notte. Una melodia semplice, una manciata di note, ha bussato alla mia testa, ed ho iniziato a canticchiare un motivetto senza sapere da dove provenisse...Questa mattina, quando mi sono svegliato, mi sono seduto davanti al pianoforte ed ho composto questa canzone, in pochi minuti. Può piacere, può non piacere...l'ho chiamata "The seagull" (Il gabbiano) perchè è venuta fuori da sola, fluttuando sulle ali della musica, esattamente come il gabbiano vola seguendo il vento...
